I chose to read and review the following article:
A pediatric digital storytelling system for third year medical students: The virtual pediatric patients
(D'Alessandro, Lewis, and D'Alessandro)
BMC Medical Education 2004
http://www.biomedcentral.com/content/pdf/1472-6920-4-10.pdf
This article is about using DS to create case stories that are memorable ways for third year medical students to learn about pediatric illnesses. The students would watch a DS introduction to the case, then think about a differential diagnosis and next steps to take, and then see a DS case resolution. I think this is a good way to use DS as an introduction to different illness presentations for beginning students.
I also couldn't find anything on using DS in psychiatry education...maybe I can fill the void and add to my CV!

Deidre, I think this article is a good tool for introducing medical students with patient care. A similar concept could be used with dental/dental hygiene students.
ReplyDeleteI bet you are just the person to implement something of this educational tool into psychiatry education :)
